Welcome to Dyrham and Hinton Parish
Nestled in the picturesque south-west side of the Cotswold escarpment, Dyrham and Hinton are two charming villages just over a mile apart. These villages, with a combined population of 296, form the civil parish governed by the Dyrham and Hinton Parish Council and the South Gloucestershire Council. Our parish, rich in history and natural beauty, is located conveniently within the south-west quadrant of the M4/A46 junction, in the south-east of South Gloucestershire, England.

Our Unique Heritage
Dyrham holds a special place in history and the hearts of its residents. It's a place name unique in the world, unmatched except for Dyersburg in the USA. Our roots extend deep into the Anglo-Saxon era, with significant historical events like the Battle of Deorham in 577, fought on Hinton Hill. The 19th century saw Dyrham join with Hinton to form a single civil parish, a union that has fostered a strong community spirit and a rich shared history.
Our Parish Today
Once part of the Blathwayt Estate, centred on the Manor House of Dyrham, the parish has evolved over the centuries. Today, Dyrham and Hinton are vibrant communities with a mix of historical and modern homes, many of which are Grade II listed, set against the backdrop of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Despite the loss of some facilities over time, our parish still boasts essential amenities and retains its essential character. St. Peter's Church, a pub in Hinton, and the pub in Tolldown are the remaining traditional landmarks that continue to serve the community.

Community Life and Services
In Dyrham and Hinton, community life is enriched by various groups and societies, and local amenities including pubs and cafés. These elements contribute to the vibrant social fabric of our parish. The Parish Council is committed to maintaining and enhancing our local services, including electricity, health services, police support, post offices, recycling centres, waste collection, street care, and water supply.
Parish Council Initiatives
The Parish Council, in collaboration with South Gloucestershire Council, supports community-driven initiatives, such as the creation and implementation of the Dyrham and Hinton Parish Plan. This plan, developed by an independent group of volunteers, reflects the collective effort and dedication of our community to improve and sustain our beautiful parish.
